Make sure that your Mac and Apple Watch meet the system requirements for Auto Unlock.
The devices should follow the setup given below:
Now, pick System Preferences from the Apple menu on your computer’s desktop. Now choose Security & Privacy from the drop-down menu. Use your Apple Watch to unlock applications and your Mac or allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac by selecting one of the options.
If you can’t access your MacBook, the easiest way is to reset your Apple ID.
Step 1: When you are at the login screen, tap on your user account and click on the question mark in the password field.
Step 2: Click the arrow next to ‘reset it using your Apple ID’.
Step 3: Enter your Apple ID and password, then click ‘Next’.
Step 4: Create a new password, and give a new hint.
Keep in mind that if you can’t remember your Apple ID or password, the Apple ID account website can help you find it.
You simply have to go to the Apple ID account website, click on ‘Forgot Apple ID or password’, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
You may unlock your MacBook without a password by logging onto it with a separate admin account. If you have a MacBook that you share with friends or family members and you forget your password, they may help you by resetting it for you. Keep in mind that in order to accomplish this, they (or you) will want access to an admin user account.
By default, the admin account is assigned to the users who first set up the Mac. It is possible, though, to keep track of things by entering into your account and selecting System Preferences. Now, go to Users & Groups to view a list of the user accounts associated with your MacBook.
You’ll see all of the account names; if any of them has the term “Admin” in it, you may use that account to reset user passwords.
Access the ‘Users and Groups’ panel by clicking on the lock icon and entering your administrator’s name and password when it is asked. Now, choose the user for whom you want to reset the password, and then click on the button labelled Reset Password, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the procedure.
You’ll need to boot your MacBook into Recovery Mode if none of the previously listed ways work for you. This will provide you with access to the password reset tool.
First and foremost, you should shut down your Mac totally and entirely. From here on out, things become a little more difficult. Press and hold the Command and R buttons on your keyboard for a few seconds before pressing the power button on your Intel MacBook. Now, hold down the Command+R keys until you see a progress bar appear below the Apple logo on your screen.
Additionally, you may get into Recovery Mode by restarting your MacBook and then attempting to time the keyboard combination, or Command+R, correctly.
In order to access the options button on the M1(Pro & Max) MacBook, switch off the machine and press and hold the power button until the options button appears. Select Recovery from the drop-down menu after tapping on it.
Your MacBook is now in Recovery Mode, so go to the ‘Utilities’ option in the menu bar and choose Terminal from the drop-down menu. You’ll notice a new window pop up, ready for you to type in a command to complete it. As a result, type’resetpassword’ as a SINGLE WORD without the quotation marks and press ‘Return.’
Close the Terminal window at this point. The Reset Password tool may be found in this section. Follow the onscreen prompts, which involve logging in with your Apple ID and then choosing the user account for which you want to change the password, among other things.
If you have turned on FileVault, you could be able to reset your password using the Reset Password assistant. Follow the steps listed below:
Step 1: Wait till your login screen loads up. You’ll see a message saying that you can use the power button on your Mac to shut down and start up again in Recovery OS.
Step 2: Press and hold the power button until your MacBook is switched off.
Step 3: Press the power button once again to turn it on.
Step 4: When the Reset Password window appears, select ‘I forgot my password’ on the screen.
Step 5: Now tap on the ‘Next’ button.
Step 6: Enter the FileVault recovery key or the Apple ID password to unlock the disk ‘Macintosh HD’ and then select the Next button. You’ll see that the startup volume will be unlocked.
Step 7: Here, you’ll see a list of user accounts. Select the account whose password you want to reset.
Step 8: Then tap on the ‘Next’ button.
Step 9: Now, enter a new password. Ensure that you verify the password along with a new password hint. Now click on the ‘Next’ button.
Your account password is now successfully reset. Ensure that you restart your MacBook. When it boots, log in to your account with your new password.
If you’ve enabled FileVault encryption and generated a recovery key, you may use it to reset your login password if you’ve forgotten your password.
To do so, open the Apple menu on your MacBook and choose “System Preferences.” Now, either click on Restart or hit the Power button on your computer and then choose Restart from the menu that appears.
For the following step, choose your user account from the drop-down menu, tap on the question mark in the password box, and then click the arrow next to’reset it using your recovery key.’
You’ll need to input your recovery key before proceeding to the next step. To reset your login password, just follow the on-screen instructions.
